Our Labor Day Labors

I suggested to Nate maybe we should go to Ogden's Union Station today with our free pass. Apparently he's more than a little sick of driving and just wanted to stay home. Since I've got a list a mile long of little projects that need done around the house, I was more than happy to agree. Here are a few of the more fun projects we accomplished today.

Walking through Walmart the other day I was amazed to see all the fall decorations out. It made me so happy. I've never quite found the perfect items for the perfect price to finish decorating my home with everyday things. The girls and I had lots of fun adding color with our fun fall decorations. I figure I'd better get the basics out now, and then as time goes on I can add Halloween or Thanksgiving pieces into the mix.

I made this basket as my first attempt with flower arranging a few years ago. We brought this antique trunk home with us after the weddings. It came from Grandma and Grandpa Garbetts, but we don't know who it originally belonged to. I saw it a few years ago and thought it would be cool to have. Apparently I'm the only one with the desire and spot to put it so yeah I get it. I must admit my parents have an old trunk that for years I wondered why they kept. I remember thinking they should get rid of the piece of junk-hehe. It is funny how time changes you.

After a little elbow grease cleaning all the dirt off, I asked Nate to help me put it up high. He almost died trying to balance the heavy thing and climb the ladder, but my hero survived. Nate cut a few shims to help it sit level (We'd really hate for it to fall on unsuspecting guests.) Then he was nice enough to rearrange all my decorations. I hope you like it, cuz I'm really loving it!
Our bathrooms have had these ugly hollywood lights since we got the house. They have served their purpose, but it is time to retire them.
I found some cute and inexpensive light fixtures at Costco. The only problem-they were brushed nickel. A fine look, but not what I wanted. Easy enough to fix with a can of spray paint.
Isn't that just beautiful. It hardly took Nate any time to switch the lights, but I LOVE the difference.
I hope you had a very fun and not so laborious labor day.
