My foot

Well here's some pictures of my left foot. It's gone through many changes, but this is where it is now.


Here's my giant boot. I have to wear it for 4-6 weeks. The ortho said I also tore some ligaments which will take at least a couple week longer to heal. I can't walk on my boot for at least a week, then I can slowly start putting it down for balance. Then finally I can start putting weight on it as I can handle it. I guess that means I should quit putting it down for balance now...


Everybody has been so helpful. Thank you so much! We really appreciate everything.

Carpet is in!

The carpet was laid yesterday!!! We are just waiting for the weather to cooperate to finish leveling the ground outside. They only have a few minor touches inside. Nate and the girls got to go see the new carpet, but I'd already been up way too much trying to get our rental picture ready for the landlord. (It really never made it.) I got to see pictures which I guess will have to do for now. The best part was when Makayla came running out to the van, "It's adorable!!!"

Ooops!!!

In case you haven't heard, I broke my cuboid bone on Tuesday morning. (That's in the foot if you don't happen to know all your bones.) Allie threw up all over me. We went upstairs to clean up. She was screaming so all I could do was a spit bath for each of us, and then I headed downstairs to find her cuddly to calm her down before being able to shower. I had her in my arms. I'm not sure what happened. I remember being almost to the bottom and then sudden pain worse than anything I've experienced before. I managed to protect Allie and just roll her out of my arms once I hit the ground. She was screaming. I was screaming. Kayla came running to our rescue. Makayla was such a sweetheart. She got the phone and called daddy, got me pillows, ice, water, and ibuprofen. She got her and Allie ready to go with a friend. I am so grateful Makayla is such a wonderful helper. She really saved the day.
We had what seemed like 100 x-rays, probably about 15 between feet. the doctor said I'd broke the left foot. He thought I'd broke two toes on my right foot, but fortunately they're only black and blue. I must say it makes hopping on crutches not very much fun.
After much deliberation and finding out I don't get a cast until next Wednesday, Nate and I decided the girls and I had better come to Idaho. Everybody has been so helpful in watching the girls. I feel so guilty sitting here in the LazyBoy having people wait on me hand and foot and take care of my kids. I don't know what I'd do without my wonderful parents and other family members. Thank you everybody!!!
We'll be heading home Tuesday night so Nate doesn't have to worry about us while working a million hours, and I won't have to be home alone without even a cast on my foot.

Also, as soon as the rain stops and they can level the yard, we get a new house!

Life!

Life has been just as crazy as ever around here. Between taking care of the kids, house, and boxing up stuff, there hasn't been much down time. I did have an appointment in Salt Lake on Valentine's Day. We thought it would be nice since Nate was home early for a change. Knowing the girls like we do, we didn't want to attempt a fancy restaurant so we decided to try Village Inn-kind of a Perkins/Denny's type location. We weren't thrilled, but figured they'd have breakfast for the girls.
After being seated immediately we thought we were in luck. WRONG! We left one hour and 20 minutes later, without having eaten. It was ridiculous. The girls were amazingly well behaved, but come on, they were starving and Allie was ready to loose it by the time we left. Taco Bell saved us-Kayla was furious over having to leave without her omlet.
It wasn't the ideal Valentine's Day, but oh well. I guess next year will definately be better. BTW, Nate surprised me with the new Anita Stansfield book hidden under my pillow. Yeah! I'd love to say I was going to enjoy it a little each night, but yeah right. I read it all in a few hours on Friday. I just hate to put a good book down once I start. The girls were playing and I figured it was my chance.
We hope everybody had a good Valentine's Day!

Kids say the darndest things-I had a stomach ache earlier this week. Kayla came over, tilted her head in sympathy and asked,"Is it the crabs in your back Mom?"
Allie saw an airplane while driving into SLC. When she couldn't see it anymore she asked,"Where'd airplane go?" I replied, "I don't know" She gave me a smile, "It in the sky, Momma."

Our weekend

This weekend we went to Pocatello to celebrate the life of my wonderful Auntie Jane. She passed away Monday morning, Feb. 4th, after a very courageous battle with cancer. It is so sad that we won't get to see her anymore, but it is also so happy that she is no longer in pain and in a much better place. I was so worried about how Makayla was going to handle Jane's death; we've been discussing it a little at a time for over a month now. When President Hinckley passed away I was able to discuss things in more depth and she saw the casket on television which helped her understand the technical aspect of death a little more.
Makayla was upset when I told her of Jane's passing, but she asked about resurrection and then she was good. It is amazing the faith of a child. We know Jane and President Hinckley have returned home, but it still saddens us. When she saw me crying Makayla almost chidded me, "Mom, it's okay. She went to be with Heavenly Father and her parents. Don't cry." Oh, how I love that little girl. How I love both my precious girls.
BTW thanks to the Hulse family for watching the girls during the viewing and funeral. It was so nice not to have to worry about them during such an emotional time.
Anyway, it seems we ran like crazy all weekend, and then our van started acting up. After much debate we decided we needed to stay and have the ignition replaced at the Honda dealership on Monday. We also had them do a tune-up since our van has 116,000 miles. Unfortunately they didn't have the part, but we did find out Nathan can fix it himself. We rushed to bountiful to get the part, and Nate will have to fix it sometime this week after we have it re-keyed to match our doors and existing keys.
On the way home we got a big chip in our windshield and pulled over for speeding-thankfully we got away with just a warning. Allison fell down the stairs at the luncheon following the funeral and ended up with a giant goose-egg and sore on her forehead.
After we got to Utah Monday we finally got to go see the house. It is looking so good. Makayla said she doesn't think she can wait much longer. It was great to be able to tell her she won't have to. The appliances are even in. The carpet needs installed, the railing stained, and then there's mostly just touchup work inside. Outside they still need to pour the back patio and RV pad for Nate's truck and then cleanup. We got some great pictures seeing as how now we can turn on lights and don't have to rely on a flashlight, but we're not going to show them. We decided if you want to see the house, you're going to have to come visit. So go ahead and start booking your dates.
We hope everybody's weekend was enjoyable and not so crazy as ours.

Lego's

Sometimes when the kids all get together we have to worry about someone being a bully between the little two (I know its hard to believe but two years olds sometimes have issues sharing), but Sunday the kids were all getting along so well. The girls brought up some legos with them, and all three sat there building for a long time. Other than dinner, it was the longest I've ever seen them all sit still. They were so cute together. Then Ty decided they should be kissing cousins-which got everybody laughing. What did we do for entertainment before we had little kids to watch?

Oh Crap!!!

I had just gotten out of the shower when I heard Makayla ask Allie. "Do you want to go, or are you too scared?"
My reaction, "Oh Crap!!!"
At the top of the stairs I found two very innocent little girls and a broken down box waiting to be taped together and filled. At the bottom of the stairs I could see a few of the boxes friends.
Apparently Makayla had the great idea of sitting on the boxes and riding them to the bottom of the stairs to land on the hardwood floors. I was told it was scarry the first time, but the most fun ever the second time. Allison, our no fear child, hadn't yet braved this new slide.
Mommy, very calmly and collectively, explained that this was not a safe and appropriate activity. Makayla with all her 5 year old might, explained I was not being fair. They would be very careful. The couch could catch them at the bottom.
While that may be some logical thinking, the broken nose that would then ensue might suggest otherwise.
I became the mean mom for a while, but after talking to Grandma and finding out Mom is not the only one who disapproved of this activity, Makayla is okay. We read stories and played games, and everything is all good at the Hulse household tonight.

Cabinets are In!!!!

Before I begin I must clarify that our house is not haunted and full of a white film. However when I went to view my newly downloaded pictures I found a few taken by a little girl. The haze about our house was explained by a cute little fingerprint found on the lens.
It's been incredibly hard for the girls and I to wait for Daddy to get home early enough to take us to view the house. Finally Friday night I told him I didn't care how late it was, we were going. Fortunately Brandie (the sales lady) lives nearby to give us the key after hours.
As you can almost tell, the stucco is finished. :-) It is oatmeal colored.

After waiting FOREVER to see the cabinets, they were covered. I wanted to peek so badly, but it wasn't worth the risk of paint getting through the peep-hole. I think they'll be beautiful. I think they are right. I think I'm going to love them.

Here is the desk area. We debated over this so much. We weren't even sure what it was going to look like, and it was the item that took us slightly over budget. We are both really, really, really glad we went for it. I am so excited to have a place for all that awful paperwork that floods our mailbox.

Makayla was really awed that they put all the doors in the family room. Daddy and Mommy were just imagining a devistating game of dominos...

This is my laundry room. I LOVE that there are, count them, 6 cabinets. YES! Finally a place to not only organize but also hide all my stuff.

Only the primer was up, but the paint should be up today and finished by Monday. Next week we'll have lights, countertops, plumbing fixtures, and basically a house.

Family Home Evening-Night at the Movie Theatre

For family home evening this week we set up a "theatre" in our family room. It was complete with tickets, a concession stand, an usher, and of course a movie. Our theatre was also equiped with toys for a busy two year old. It was lots of fun. Makayla has been asking all week if we can do it again.
