First Grade Awards Ceremony
In tiny print on the week before's newsletter, there was an announcement for an award ceremony. Since the school wasn't making a big deal over it, and since we had plans for shopping on our last day of our girls week, I almost didn't go. Kayla's beaming face made me glad I came. Kayla received National in the Presidential Fitness. We're proud of her. I just wish they let you know scores for each area. While we'll continue to work on everything, it would be nice to know exactly how she did. National is the middle level with Participation below and Presidential above. There weren't many to earn Presidential, and lots only got Participation. So we're very proud she did so good.
Kayla received an award for reading 100 books since January. Actually she's read over 200, but who's counting-anymore.
With a lot of help from the reading moms, every child in her class was able to read 100 books. Some parents never read with their kids at all. As time was running out, we would read with those kids only so that they could reach the goal. Sometimes I don't understand people. Is it really too much trouble to sit and read for a few minutes a day with your child. At least once in a while.
