Not the Weekend I Planned.

The girls and I decided to come to Pocatello and visit when we realized Kayla had Friday and Monday off from school. Nate was going to be working and sleeping nonstop so we figured we wouldn't be missed. Thursday night right before leaving, I fixed the girls pancakes from the freezer. Somehow I gave Kayla gluten ones, and she spent the second half of our drive throwing up. When we finally got to my parent's house, both girls were asleep. My Dad picked Kayla up to carry her inside, and she got sick all down his back. It was not a pleasant evening, and I just have to say Thanks Dad!

Friday we went to Stuarts and Amy took some darling pictures of the girls. They turned out really fun and super cutes. I can't wait to get the prints. Hint!!! Hint!!! Afterwards we tried to stop by the Scout Office and surprise Darla, but I'd forgotten she was taking the Young Women's camping. Then we ran over to Amy's to help her take some pictures for Cards and use the girls in a few. At this point Mom had been on the phone all day back and forth with Grandma Garbett's doctor's office. It was decided we needed to immediately take her to the hospital.

Mom and I left the girl's with Amy and went to pack Grandma a bag and take her to the hospital. The surgeon determined she needed surgery first thing in the morning to removed a section of her colon due to diverticulitis. Without going into too many details, Saturday was a stressful day of mostly waiting. Thank you to all the Hulse family for watching the girls in the afternoon/evening. It was a definite blessing. Grandma ended up in ICU after a little bit of troubles, but Monday they were able to put her in a regular recovery room.

It sounds like we were very lucky they operated when they did. Now Grandma just has a lot of recovery and rehabilitation ahead of her. She's got at least a few more days in the hospital followed by possibly months in an assisted care facility where they have the training to help her recover. It sounds like a long and not fun road, but hopefully Grandma will eventually feel better than she has for a long time.

The girls and I ended up not leaving until Tuesday early morning so the girls could visit with Grandma Garbett Monday evening. It made for a white knuckle drive most of the time as we passed car after car slid off the road. Kayla needed a potty break about Layton, and I needed a break too. We stopped at Kohls and wandered for a while. It meant she missed school, but I think it was a necessary break. We got back on the road after grabbing the kids some food, and it seemed things had just gotten worse. Finally we reached the airport, and everything changed from snow to rain. Suddenly we could see and drive safely. It is good to be home!!!

I do hope your grandma is feeling better - and glad you got home safe!
